Wine Camp 2008

Wine Camp is sold out! Feel free to learn more about our event on this and other pages. We’ll post details about next year’s events when that information becomes available.

Welcome to Wine Camp 2008 – a delectable three-day, three-night adventure into the intricacies of wine and food, held in Northern California's secret wine country.

In 2008, we are setting up “camp” in Mendocino County’s spectacular Anderson Valley located just two hours north of the Golden Gate Bridge and recognized as one of California’s premier wine producing regions.

An intimate affair, Wine Camp is limited to only eight participants. The focus of this exclusive epicurian expedition is for you to enhance your knowledge and enjoyment of wine, food and the combination thereof.

The Wineries

You will have hands-on experiences with many of Anderson Valley’s finest producers. A partial list includes Goldeneye, Roederer Estate, Londer, Navarro, Breggo, Handley and Greenwood Ridge. You will explore how wines are made, why they taste the way they do, the art of blending, the science of barrel aging, the grape varietals that thrive locally, as well as the importance of soil, topography and clonal selection.

The Apple Farm

Our “base camp” is the nationally-acclaimed Apple Farm, where you will be lodged in charming cottages surrounded by orchards. The Apple Farm is run by the Schmitt-Bates family, led by Sally and Don Schmitt, who founded the internationally acclaimed French Laundry restaurant in the Napa Valley. One of the highlights of each session is a hands-on culinary class led by Sally in which “campers” help to prepare Saturday evening’s much-anticipated dinner.

In Good Hands

Wine Camp's senior “counselor” is Mark Bowery, who has worked with many legendary wine and food personalities. Mark, called “engaging and unpretentious” by Gourmet Magazine, has created nationally recognized wine lists for restaurants such as Masa’s in San Francisco, Café Beaujolais and Albion River Inn on the Mendocino coast. He is currently a wine and spirits consultant who travels the world leading wine tasting events for clients, such as Visa, UBS, and Crystal Cruises.

Wine Camp is a celebration of the senses. Please join us.
